18F-Sodium Fluoride (NaF) PET/CT is an important tool for detecting and evaluating metastatic bone cancer. These bone studies are particularly useful, since some of the most prevalent cancers are commonly associated with metastatic bone disease, such as breast and prostate cancer, as well as carcinoma of the thyroid, kidney, and lung. Skeletal metastasis diagnosed on each of these techniques was compared against a final diagnosis based on contrast-enhanced CT, MRI, skeletal survey, clinical follow-up, and histological correlation. Results: (18)F-fluoride PET/CT identified bony metastases and changed the management in 17 of 48 patients (35%).

Sodium Fluoride PET/CT Bone Scans. Sodium Fluoride PET/CT studies are available at all of our PET/CT locations. This new, state-of-the-art technology is superior to conventional bone scans and is specifically designed for detecting bone metastases. Advantages of Sodium Fluoride. Higher sensitivity and specificity than conventional bone scans NaF-18 PET refers to sodium fluoride PET imaging utilizing NaF-18 as the radioactive tracer PET - positron emission tomography or to a positron emission tomogram PET/CT - positron emission tomography – computerized tomography PET Detection and assessment of the extent of cancer metastases to bone are important diagnostic issues. Intense FDG uptake by bone marrow following recent chemotherapy limits evaluation for osseous metastases.

Objective: Determination of the accuracy of sodium fluorine-18-fluoride (F-NaF) PET/computed tomography (CT) for the evaluation of bone metastases, and the impact on patient management in breast cancer patients. Patients and methods: Patients with breast cancer, referred for F-NaF PET/CT between February 2014 and June 2016, were included in a database.

In 12 AS patients … We describe the role of 18F-sodium fluoride (18F-NaF) PET/CT bone scanning in the staging of breast and prostate cancer. 18F-NaF PET was initially utilized as a bone scanning agent in the 1960s and early 1970s, however, its use was restricted by the then-available γ-cameras. PET/CT scanning was performed 40 min after an intravenous injection of 185–370 MBq (5–10 mCi) of 18F-sodium fluoride.

Because of these advantages, and advancements in cost-effeciveness, it has been suggested that 18F-fluoride PET will replace conventional bone scan for detection of bone metastases within Objective: Determination of the accuracy of sodium fluorine-18-fluoride (F-NaF) PET/computed tomography (CT) for the evaluation of bone metastases, and the impact on patient management in breast cancer patients. Patients and methods: Patients with breast cancer, referred for F-NaF PET/CT between February 2014 and June 2016, were included in a database. Sodium fluoride PET has higher sensitivity and specificity in detecting and diagnosing bone diseases compared with conventional bone scintigraphy, even when the latter is supplemented with SPECT or SPECT/CT imaging 2. The primary clinical use of sodium fluoride PET is in detection of osseous prostate cancer metastasis. F18 fluoride is the tracer that will be used for your bone scan. PET F18 fluoride bone scans are done most often to detect metastatic bone disease (cancer that has spread from an organ to th e bone).
